I am Berber, born in the desert, where for generations my family and many others lived as nomads, moving with their animals and living in tents under the stars. This way of life taught us to respect nature, live with little, and value the freedom of the desert.
But over the years, many things have changed. Some of our neighbors and relatives decided to leave the nomadic life and move to villages. They looked for a more stable life, with access to schools for their children, medical care, and new job opportunities. They traded their tents for adobe houses, tea by the fire for village cafés, and long walks with camels for motorbikes or cars.
Although they left the desert, many still carry their roots in their hearts. They continue to celebrate Berber traditions, speak Tamazight, and teach their children the values of hospitality, respect for elders, and connection to the land.
Today, some of us still live in the desert, welcoming travelers who want to experience nomadic life. Others, from the village, work as guides, cooks, or drivers. All of us, in one way or another, remain united by our roots and our shared history.
